Brothers,
I greet you in the name of the Supreme Omega who has sustained me
through my
days of joy and my years of pain. Brothers, as we should be called, I
was
driving back to Ft. Bragg this past Sunday evening listening to the
radio
when I heard this song called "Heroes and Friends". I was immediately
impacted by the song's lyrics because it reminded me of you. The song
reminded me of the many Brothers I encountered and the ones who made
positive impacts on my life during my Omega travels. I was reminded of
the
Brother who ministered to me during darkest days and uplifted my soul
saying, "See It Through" you mighty "Invictus". (Team, I am glad you
are
safely home from your deployment spending time with your family. It was
good hearing your voice Friday night.) I was reminded of the Brother
who
texted me during his R&R just to hang out. (Team, I am sorry I missed
you.
We will have those fishplate lunches again when you return from
Afghanistan.) I was reminded of the Brothers who keep me on their email
distribution list and always surprise me with the content. (Keep it up.
You take the edge off a hard day.) I was reminded of the Brother, no
matter
where he is in World; always find time to send me a souvenir or two.
(It
was good to talk with you this past Saturday. You always made time for
me).
I was reminded of the Brother who calls me two - three times a month
from
Alabama just to talk about whatever. (Team, as your senior unpaid
political, economical, military, spiritual, policy, and strategic
adviser,
you can win! Now, go knock on those doors!) I was reminded of the
Brother
and spouse who warmly welcomed my family to their home without prejudice
and
jurisdiction just to give this traveler a moment of rest. (I need to
call
you more than I do. You always email me.) I was reminded of the Brother
who
wanted my ear just to safely laydown his burdens on my chest. (He still
reminds me of the moment with tokens of "Thank yous". Roo BIG DAWG.you
saw
it through!) I was reminded of the Brothers who took care of me during
my
many TDYs. (Roo, roo. You know you have more than a crust of bread and
corner to sleep in at Ft. Bragg.)
I was reminded of you, Brother and.
I want to share the song with you and hope it reminds you of the Omega
Brothers we should always strive to be.
Heroes and Friends,
I ain't lived forever, but I've lived enough
I've learned to be gentle, and I've learned to be tough
I've found only two things that last 'til the end,
One is your heroes, the other's your friends
Your heroes will help you find good in yourself
Your friends won't foresake you for somebody else
They'll both stand beside you through thick and through thin
That's how it goes with heroes and friends
I grew up with cowboys I watched on TV
My friends and I sometimes pretended to be
Years have gone by, but now and again
My heart rides the range with my heroes and friends
